Meet the Speaker: Ted Kozlowski of DemandQuest & Stillwater

This month’s MnSearch event will be held on Wednesday, October 26th. And since the political season is in full swing, we thought it would be interesting to explore how political campaign strategists compose their own digital marketing efforts to help influence voters. Together, we will explore some of the interesting things politicians and their teams are using to try to win campaigns. From this, we will learn what works, how we are influenced, and what potential strategies and tactics we could be using in our own digital campaigns to reach successful outcomes.

Register today!

And prior to the event, we want to help you get to know a little bit about our speaker(s). So keep reading to learn about one of our speakers coming on at the end of the month, President of the DemandQuest Marketing Institute in Minneapolis and Mayor of Stillwater, Ted Kozlowski.

1. How did you first hear about MnSearch?

I’m pretty sure that I was hanging out with Ward Tongen & Jeff Sauer after a class at DemandQuest when MnSem (now MnSearch) was first brought up.

2. What can attendees expect to take away from your session?

I’ll share all of the details about using social and Adwords in my political campaigns as well as the other political campaigns I’ve worked on. It’s a different animal from the traditional campaigns I run for B2B or B2C and it’s a lot of fun. These are short-lived campaigns where traditional KPI measurement goes out the window.

3. What is the biggest mistake that you still see individuals/organizations making in your area of expertise?

Not understanding your client’s business.

4. What one piece of career advice do you wish someone had given you when you started your career?

Don’t sweat it. I spent a lot of time trying to fit myself into positions that were not the right fit. When something is not working or does not feel right don’t be afraid to move.

5. Besides marketing and politics, what is one topic of discussion that you could talk about for hours on end?

Cooking.

6. What is the best part about operating DemandQuest?

The students are great. There are days when I really don’t want to teach. I’ve got a lot going on and DemandQuest is really a labor of love. Once I get there and meet everyone I’m always really happy. Our students are really thankful, we get thank you notes, we have beer on tap and it always turns into a great experience for me and the students. I get to meet a lot of really talented and interesting people.

7. What is the coolest part about being the Mayor of Stillwater?

I have my own police department 🙂 I’ve been able to do some things for our town that will have an impact on our community for the next 100 years. So long after I’m dead and gone, I’ll still be messing with Stillwater.

8. What are the best spots for food & drinks we need to visit in the Stillwater area?

Lolo & Marx on Main Street are great for food and drinks. Lift Bridge Brewery is awesome. My advice is to get on the river.
